WAYSTEAD
Founder's Story

I didn't start Waystead because I wanted to start another AI company.

I've spent much of my career building technology - cloud platforms, infrastructure and increasingly AI systems.

And the more capable technology became, the more I found myself interested in a different question.

What should we actually use all of this capability for?

Not another feed.

Not another tool demanding our attention.

Not another piece of software designed around engagement.

I became interested in technology that could quietly make ordinary life better.

Technology that helps us remember the stories of our parents before they disappear.

Technology that helps us hold onto the ideas and knowledge we accumulate over years.

Technology that notices we keep saying we should see an old friend, and helps turn that intention into Saturday dinner.

That thinking became three experiments.

Eventually I realised they weren't three unrelated ideas. They were different expressions of the same belief.

Technology should help us live richer lives, not simply more digital ones.

That belief became Waystead.

We are still at the beginning.

Waystead is deliberately small. We experiment, build quickly, listen carefully and keep what proves useful.

AI will change enormously over the coming years. Models will become faster, cheaper and more capable. But the things worth building for are much older than AI:

memory, relationships, curiosity, family, knowledge and time.

Those are the things I want Waystead to work on.
